"Etching for Moi"

"Etching for Moi"

All proceeds from the sale of this artwork will be donated to the Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation (AARF).

Over the years Leon has produced etchings for his children, 'Etching for Nia' (1988) and 'Damien's Kite' (1994), and now he has completed a beautiful piece for his wife - 'Etching for Moi' (2018).

This work tells a story of Leon's love. The lighthouse represents Moi as a strong figure who has withstood a lifetime of storms and anything nature has flung against her, but whose light shines regardless. The musical clouds speak to Moi's passion for classical music and the lighthouse is surrounded by a sea of floating flowers reflecting her capacity to remain buoyant, happy and positive. Moira's name is spelled out in nautical flags. The clothesline is symbolic of the traditional work load that has always been the burden of wives and mothers.

Leon and Moira are giving all proceed of sales of his work to the Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation (AARF). AARF are leaders in the international efforts to solve the complex puzzle of Alzheimer's disease. Based here in Perth, the foundation provides funding and facilities for research into ways to prevent or delay the onset of the disease or slow its progression.
